Ensuite Complete! (Final Touches and Before & Afters)

The ensuite used to give me the creeps - I knew there was something leaking, the floor was gross, the shower was an enclosed place with an opaque door that made you think there was a murderer or the Babadook standing outside waiting for you to emerge naked, cold and unprepared for attack (I think I may have showered in there all of 4 times). The bathroom overall was a hacked-together dumpster fire.

Looks about right

But now when I go in there it's ... calming. Perhaps it isn't so much the decor, but because it's finished! We're done!!!

So, after all the hard work (tiling, drywalling, redoing plumbing, electrical, demolition, rebuilding the floor, etc etc etc) we got to do the really hard part, which was arguing which furniture/accessories to get!

Light
Rob seems to think because he's an electrician he gets to veto every glitzy, glittery, beautiful light I like. Instead of fight the good fight on this one, I gave in (yes, sometimes I do give in) and we decided NOT to get something with crystals in it. Sigh (oh well, I have that in the basement bath). We still scoured Home Depot, Lowe's and Rona. As usual Rob hated what I liked, I hated what he liked, and we both hated the prices (at least we agree on that). At this point we were getting cheaper and cheaper about this bathroom. So I dragged Rob into The Lighting Shoppe and we forced ourselves to make a decision!

Woo!
It has enough glitz for my liking (the cool non-complete rectangles, the reflective surface) and Rob for some reason likes opaque light shades. Whatever - we're both happy with the light and we can move on with our damn lives!

Vanity

We looked for a vanity for months. Every time we were in a store that sold even one vanity we searched but nothing matched our internal aesthetic or the functionality we needed. We just wanted a modern white vanity with two drawers on the left (for storing my hair dryer, straightener and Rob's shaver/makeup, etc) and a door on the right for cleaning materials. Shouldn't be hard, right? Wrong. Rona, Home Depot, Lowe's, Urban Barn, Wayfair, IKEA, other online stores ... every place had nothing (or was over-priced).  Unlike Rob came across this place in the unlikely of places ... Preston.

Evon.

I can't go on about Evon more! The staff guy brought us into the back where the (cheaper) bath vanities were (there is also a really nice showroom upstairs) and a glorious light shone down on a vanity sitting off by itself. It was white. It had a one-piece counter top (which is a glass composite), it had chrome knobs, and, most importantly, it had TWO DRAWERS ON THE LEFT. We didn't even need to think about it. It was also 36" (which was our max width) and had slow-close doors. The price was also very reasonable. I will definitely be getting our next vanity from there and possibly our kitchen cabinets in the far far future when we have money again.

Mirror

Evon saved us here too! Originally we wanted to reuse the tri-fold mirror (but take off the lights) because it had storage. But, it was ugly, didn't match the style, and was very wide - too wide for the vanity. But could we bring ourselves to buy another tri-fold in a different style? Not really.

But while at Evon I found this awesome, small, above-the-toilet cabinet for the other bathroom. The sales guy told us that cabinet (which was a different style) also came in the style of our recently found vanity and as there was a tiny scuff, he'd sell it to us for $117. Where's the scuff? Who knows!!  But this solved our mirror problem, as we could now get just a regular old mirror, guilt-free!

Toilet Papers look like teeth haha

Oh, and Rob was being picky about a non-glitzy mirror too! So I finally found one at Homesense that served both our aesthetics.

Accessories!

Also from Evon. Really cool towel/TP holders

Ikea plant that will likely die in like two weeks

OK, not an accessory, but it was so nice to replace this stupid GFI with a new one!

That's one ugly mother...
Toothbrush holder and cup from Bed Bath & Beyond (you had to snag some of our cash somewhere, didn't you, BBB?)

And, finally, everyone's favorite part of ANY renovation blog, show, etc ....

BEFORE AND AFTERS!!
